The Colorado Health Foundation is bringing health in reach for all Coloradans by engaging closely with communities across the state through investing, policy advocacy, learning and capacity building.

With a shared vision to transform health care in Colorado, the Foundation recently awarded a $175,000 grant to Metropolitan State University of Denver, supporting the Gina and Frank Day Health Institute at MSU Denver capital fund.

“The Colorado Health Foundation remains dedicated to making sure all Coloradans have what they need to live healthy lives,” said Liz Charles, senior program officer, The Colorado Health Foundation. “And that includes medical professionals, like those trained at MSU Denver, who will serve our communities with cultural competency, care and compassion.”

The Health Institute is ushering in a new frontier for the future of patient-centered health care, consolidating health-related programs spanning 10 academic departments. To meet programming needs and serve a diverse, whole-person-based workforce, the University is building a state-of-the-art 70,000-square-foot, six-story facility connected to the Interprofessional Simulation and Skills Laboratory, which opened in August 2024.

This expansion allows the University to increase the number of health care students accepted and graduating each year by 32%, helping meet Colorado’s growing needs for a more robust health care workforce.

“The Colorado Health Foundation’s generosity is a testament to their unwavering commitment to health care accessibility,” said Christine Márquez-Hudson, vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the MSU Denver Foundation. “Their support will significantly enhance our ability to increase the number of diverse, highly skilled medical professionals ready to serve Coloradans across the state.”

“Together, we are transforming health care in Colorado and building a brighter, healthier future for all.”
